'Harmonious: Common Ground'
Diamond and Slate sat in their kitchen and sipped mugs of coffee as they laughed and browsed a wedding website full of beautiful wedding ideas.
Diamond’s eyes sparkled upon noticing the floral arrangements. “I’ve always loved peonies and roses. I think they’d be perfect for our centerpieces and bouquets.”
Slate grinned. “Me too! I think that’s a great idea. Those colors will look perfect with the bridesmaids’ dresses.”
Diamond’s eyes lingered on a photo of a rustic barn wedding. She jumped up and hugged Slate. “Oh, Slate! A charming barn wedding is exactly what I’ve been dreaming of my whole life! Look, it’s not far from here!”
Slate hesitated before responding. “Well, Diamond, it’s awesome, but I’ve been thinking about a Las Vegas wedding, with an Elvis impersonator and everything. It would be fun and very different.”
Diamond paced back and forth, her hands clasped tightly. She felt her cheeks redden as Slate’s words sank in. “Vegas? Different? How many people get married there every year? Even your parents eloped there. It’s not different.”
Slate ran a hand through his hair. “Diamond, it’s my wedding, too, and I’ve always wanted a Las Vegas wedding with an Elvis impersonator!”

Have Another Chance
❦ Different visions can find common ground.
Diamond and Slate arrive at the Opaline Manor, holding hands as they enter the manager’s office. Moonstone greets them with a welcoming smile. “Diamond and Slate! It’s lovely to meet you both. I’m looking forward to discussing your wedding plans. Please have a seat, and let’s get started.”
Diamond eagerly begins, “Moonstone, I noticed the horse-drawn carriage in your brochure. Do you still have that? I’ve always wanted a horse-drawn carriage ever since I was a little girl.” Slate frowns, disagreeing, “Wait a minute! Let’s discuss this. What about my vintage 442 Oldsmobile convertible? It’s stylish, and you know that car is a must-have for me. I guess I assumed you would know that.”
Moonstone interjects, “I can see that both of your ideas have common ground. How about Diamond arrives in the horse-drawn carriage before the ceremony? After the ceremony, you both ride in it to the reception? At the same time, we display Slate’s vintage convertible on the lawn in front of the Opaline Manor. You drive away in Slate’s car after the reception!
Diamond’s eyes light up as she imagines the day. “That sounds exciting, Moonstone! It would be the perfect blend of both of our ideas. I wonder if our photographer could do a romantic portrait of us standing next to the carriage, with Slate’s car and the mansion in the background? Slate, what do you think?”
Slate smiles. “I love it! Wait a minute. Shouldn’t my car be in front?”

About the Author
Robert Winton worked for thirteen years as a professional wedding photographer, capturing priceless moments at hundreds of beautiful weddings. He now draws on that experience to imagine Diamond and Slate’s walk down the aisle.
